When Paul, who was called to be an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the Will of God, received his Divine Revelation while on his way to Damascus to persecute the Christians, he wrote of his experience thusly: "And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter" (2 Cor. 12:3-4). Paul was completely floored by the stupendous nature of the Divine Revelation which he received and found it difficult to relate to others either by word of mouth or by writing just what he saw, and was caused to understand. Of Paul's writings, the Apostle Peter states in his own epistles that many of the things that Paul wrote were hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction (2 Pet. 3:16).
So it is that when I received my Divine Revelation in 1931, I immediately recognized the difficult task that confronted me as pertaining to the conveying of my thoughts to others. Many times, I have attempted to put this colossal and revolutionary divine concept on paper, and it is only now that I have finally succeeded in expressing myself in writing. I must admit and acknowledge, however, that I have been tremendously aided in the writing of this work by a limited number of condescending individuals, whose efforts I feel I must acknowledge and to whom I am deeply grateful.
Dr. Carl F. Gross, my constant companion in this work for the past 28 years has assisted me tremendously in the compilation of data and in theological research as well, and also by his often expressed constructive criticism
Demolition of Illini Hall
The building that served as the original University YMCA is demolished in March 2023, the initial stage of the Altgeld and Illini Hall Project to expand and modernize learning and research spaces in mathematics, statistics, and data sciences at the University of Illinois.
2023Creation of Data Science + X Programs
An exciting series of interdisciplinary undergraduate degrees in data science are offered to students for the first time. The X + DS program, with “X” representing an existing degree blended with data science, begins with four programs: Accountancy + DS (Gies), Finance + DS (Gies), Astronomy + DS (LAS), and Information Sciences + DS (iSchool).
2023A wooly mammoth arrives
A 12-foot high wooly mammoth statue is installed on the outside the Natural History Building. The statue, created by a firm in Rantoul, Illinois, under consultation by current and retired LAS faculty members, surprises the campus community and instantly becomes a popular photo-op spot.
2023Foreign Languages Building renamed
The Foreign Languages Building at the University of Illinois becomes the Literatures, Cultures, and Linguistics Building. This change reflects a broader academic scope than the school possessed when it was originally named in 1968.

Faculty, staff, and alumni from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences receive the Presidential Medallion by University of Illinois President Tim Killeen for their leadership in the development of the COVID-19 SHIELD test-and-trace system, which provided rapid test results for the virus. The SHIELD system was eventually used beyond campus. The honorees include six employed in the College of LAS (Fadi G. Alnaji, Christopher Brooke, Martin D. Burke, Kelsie J. Green, Paul J. The personal stories and memories of these veterans serve as a reminder to us of the great courage, achievements and contributions that have been made by Canada’s military in the cause of peace and freedom throughout our history as a nation. It is very important that we teach our children about our past, so that we can ensure that we have learned all we can for the future. Every veteran has a distinct story to tell and unique experiences to share but they have all accepted considerable risks and hardships and time away from loved ones in order to defend the principles and way of life we cherish as Canadians. These books are a wonderful way to honour the sacrifices of Canada’s brave veterans and ensure that their stories are remembered for generations to come. Best wishes to all. Donald S.
