CN Janaki is a renowned paraplegic swimmer.

Despite suffering polio in both legs, Cn Janki became the initial disabled person to attempt to swim across the English Channel in a professional team in 1992. She was only two years old when she contracted the disease, but she made her real team proud by demonstrating to the rest of the entire globe that you do not need legs to swim.

1929 saw the birth of C.N. Janki in Perumbu, Kerala. Two older sisters, a pair of elder brothers, two smaller sisters, two younger brothers make up her four siblings. Her parents' names are C.S. and Saraswathi Narayanaswamy. She is the middle child of the two older sisters.

In Pallapatla, Repalle Taluka, in Guntur, Madras Presidency, British India (now in Andhra Pradesh), Janaki was born on April 23. Sreeramamurthy Sistla, her father, was an Ayurvedic physician and educator. She spent most of her childhood years in Sircilla, where she was given her first opportunity to perform on stage when she was nine.

When she was just 2 years old, she was diagnosed with polio. Her legs were poliomed on both sides. She proved to the world that individuals do not need legs to swim with her strength and tenacity. Munnu, as affectionately known, was born in Perumbu, Kerala, in 1929.

Early Years

In 1867, Amy Beatrice Carmichael—the eldest of seven siblings—was born in Millisle, County Down, Ireland. A devout Christian couple, David and Catherine were her parents. During her childhood, Amy spent four years as a student at Harrogate Ladies College. An affluent Irish family welcomed Amy Carmichael into the world. She lived in luxury, attended the greatest boarding schools, and was blessed with many wonderful things since her father had a grain mill.
