Brian Silas is a musician in the Hindi film industry. Brian was brought up in Kanpur. He is from a musical family and is a specialist in playing piano. Brian has worked with famous music composers, including Salil Choudhary, Khayyam, O.P. Nayyar, Laxmikant Pyare Lal, S.D. Burman, Ravi and Madan Mohan. Besides working on movies, he also worked on Hindi devotional albums and Christmas carols. He has released more than 30 albums. In 1998, Brian played the piano for the Grand Omega event. Cindy Crawford was the ambassador of the event. He also played piano for the Miss World curtain raiser.

He was invited to play music at the UN Hall in New York in 1998 on the 51st India’s Independence Day. He also played in the fundraiser at the Rockefeller Center of the Indo-American Society, which had Bill Clinton as one of the guests. Brian has toured Canada, the Middle East, Mauritius, Europe, and the US. Brian has an association with an organization for special children, Tamana.

He also associated with Palna and Prayaas. During the Kargil war, Brian played piano for the wounded to support their patriotism.

The romance between Brian and the piano began early, it has been a burning desire, an insatiable passion to master the instrument. Brian's early years were spent in Kanpur in a family steeped in music and tradition> He plays from sheer instinct. Incredibly, despite his parent's insistence, he has had no formal training in music. As Brian grew up, the world of music, became the Goddess that he must relentlessly pursue.

His 10 years tryst with the piano has got Brian fame and accolades from audiences in India and abroad. His genius has arrested the attention of the connoisseur as well as the uninitiated.Although the piano has been widely used in picturising the romance in the Indian cinema, it is ironic that the main melody (song) was seldom composed with the piano in mind. It therefore becomes even more amazing how Brian has achieved in bringing out every nuance and detail of the lyrics and music becoming a one man orchestra on this grand instrument.

Brian has pioneered this technique to adapt the Piano a distinctively western instrument to the music of his own country. He evokes the nostalgia of great music directors like Khayyam, Salil Choudhary, O.P. Nayyar, S.D. Burman, Laxmi Kant Pyare Lal, Ravi and the inimitable Madan Mohan, leaving his audience spell bound.

Using his innovative style, Brian has been widely acclaimed as the new star of the piano. This has prompted Mr. Khushwant Singh to say "he makes the piano sing". Brian is a much sort after musician filling his audience with a charm of his special music. He has released 20 albums.

One of the magical moments created by Brian's music has been the Grand Omega event in Jan. 1998 featuring Cindy Crawford as its ambassador. He has been a hit on fashion shows, providing the sensuous melody to which fashion models sway on the ramp. In fact, the curtain raiser of Miss World had Brian playing the piano. He has performed extensively in all the leading auditoriums to packed houses fol

Belonging to a family of musicians and artists, Brian Silas is no less than a perfectionist on the piano. Surprisingly, he has had no formal education in music, but his melodies have held generations of listeners in thrall.
Brian, who will be performing in a concert in Delhi celebrating 20 years of his stage performances next month, speaks to us about how he came to be a pianist, why old Bollywood music is his favourite, and his journey as a performer and a teacher.

Brian's family was well-versed with music, but he was reluctant to take up music seriously as a kid. Though he learnt a few instruments, he was not too keen to pursue music as a profession, unlike most of his family members. However, when asked what drew him to the piano eventually, Brian says, “I think God told me directly. I was working at that time. I had no money and I'd left my job. And that is when I started playing the piano. I rented a piano and that's how I started this journey.”
He adds, “Music toh shuru se hi tha. It was always there inside me. My parents and grandparents thought that one day, I’ll play the piano. I couldn’t even reach the piano we had at home, yet I knew how to play the right notes. My parents wanted me to learn the right techniques in school, but neither I nor the teacher had the patience.”
Telling us about his journey that shaped him as an artist, Brian shares, “As we grow up, one starts looking for stability, so I took a job and had no time for music. I came to Delhi from Kanpur, I was the marketing manager in the purchase department at Appu Ghar. We had a cultural department there and it had two bands - one English and one Hindi. Since I had a craving for music, I used to sit with them and play their instruments. But I was more attracted to the piano.”
He continues, “I took a piano on rent, for which I didn’
