Actor Uzma Khan on Tuesday withdrew the case against three women and their armed guards whom she had accused last week of torturing her and her sister after angrily storming a house where she was staying in Lahore's DHA neighbourhood.
A former member of Uzma's legal team claimed that the two sides had reportedly reached a settlement which led to the withdrawal of charges, but no official confirmed this on record.
Video clips showing violence carried out on the actor and her sister Huma Khan, allegedly by the daughters of property tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain, had sparked outrage and calls for justice on social media earlier this week.
A first information report (FIR) of the incident was registered on Wednesday (March 27) on Uzma's complaint against Riaz's daughters Pashmina Malik and Ambar Malik, Amina Usman Malik (wife of Usman Malik), and 15 unidentified armed men — the private guards with whom the three women had entered the house seen in video clips.
Uzma had later denied having cut a deal with the persons involved in the violence. “These are just rumours and I reject them making it clear that no such effort is being made,” she had told Dawn on Friday, adding that neither the suspects had contacted her for any deal nor would she accept it.
But on Tuesday, Uzma submitted an application to Defence C Police, saying the case she had gotten registered last week was lodged "on the basis of a misunderstanding" and that she no longer wants to pursue it.

She said no challan had so far been submitted in the case. "I don't want to give any testimony or deposition in the above-stated case," Uzma added.
She recorded a similar statement before Judicial Magistrate Nauman Nasir of Lahore Cantt Courts under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), saying she wants to withdraw the case.
Her sister, Huma, in her separate statement recorded under Section 164 of CrPC said "no such occurrence" — a reference to the vi

Uzma Aslam Khan is the author of four novels: The Story of Noble Rot, Trespassing, The Geometry of God, and the forthcoming Thinner than Skin. Trespassing was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize Eurasia 2003. The Geometry of God was voted one of Kirkus Reviews' Best Books of 2009 and won a bronze medal in the Independent Publisher Book Awards 2010. Both have been translated worldwide. An extract from Thinner than Skin, titled 'Ice, Mating,' appeared in Granta 112: Pakistan. Here she talks to Awais Aftab about love, life, and work.

--------
Awais Aftab: You have travelled extensively; have lived both abroad and in Pakistan. How do you see Pakistan with your traveller’s eyes?
Uzma Aslam Khan: I was born in Pakistan grew up mostly in Pakistan, my family lives in Pakistan, and I've spent much of my life in Pakistan. I've lived outside the country too, but I'm not sure how to differentiate between my "Pakistani eyes" and "traveller’s eyes". When am I seeing from one and not the other? All my books have relied on experiences (sensory, emotional, and political) felt on and from the land. I couldn't write about Pakistan without this sediment to draw from.
AA: About your second novel Trespassing. It's easy to see how your own life experiences could have led to the development of the characters of Dia and Daanish, but what about Salaamat? Where did he come from?
UAK: I have no idea. I saw him one day exactly as I wrote him in the prologue: smoking on a sand dune on a Karachi beach while a turtle laid eggs. From there on, he was just there. I've always been grateful to him for the long visit, during which it felt as though I was the character and he the writer. Years later, Mehwish in The Geometry of God possessed me with the same intensity, leaving me equally hapless and thankful. And now 2016 Pakistani television series Sang-e-Mar Mar (Urdu: سنگِ مر مر, transl. Marble), previously titled Daasi, is a Pakistani drama serial that aired on Hum TV from 1 September 2016 to 9 March 2017. It stars Nauman Ijaz, Sania Saeed, Mikaal Zulfiqar, and Kubra Khan in leading roles with Omair Rana, Paras Masroor, Uzma Hassan, Tipu Sharif and Kaif Ghaznavi in supporting roles. It is directed by Saife Hassan and written by Mustafa Afridi. Focussing on the honour culture in tribal areas, it states how love and revenge annihilate relations. A spiritual successor titled Sang-e-Mah aired on the same channel from January 2022 to July 2022. Sang-e-Mar Mar is centred around childhood friends Shireen and Aurang. Shireen mistakenly believes that Aurang is the love of her life since their youth, even though they have not seen each other for many years. Aurang, much to the disapproval of his father, has moved to the city to study and is completely unaware of Shireen's love for him. He has feelings for Palwasha, his brother-in-law's sister. Other important characters include Aurang's sister (Bano) and her husband (Torah), Aurang's mother (Shameem), father (Gulistan Khan), and brothers (Saifullah and Goher). Sang-e-Mar Mar follows a Pashtun family, which is headed by Gulistan Khan and his wife Shameem. They have three sons—Safiullah, Aurang, and Goher—and a daughter, Bano. The drama begins with the death of Gulistan's aged father Baran Khan whom he kills with his own hands at Baran's request. Gulistan follows strict Pashtun traditions, such as avoiding western clothing, which is considered a threat to Pashtun traditional values. Gulistan's youngest son Aurang was sent to Peshawar University and, unlike his elder siblings, possesses urban and literal views. His only emotional attachment is to his mother, who is the reason he often visits his village Garhi Baran. A second storyline involves Shireen (nick Sang-e-Mar Mar
