PrebioThrive Review: Is it good for gut health?
Short-term Effects
5.0/10Positives
- Contains GOS, although amount unknown
Negatives
- Could be 99.9% flaxseed for all we know
- Too many plant gums
- Quality of inulin could be higher
- Very expensive for a simple prebiotic
Summary
PrebioThrive is a pretty poor prebiotic. Compared to other gut health supplements on sale today, it offers very low value for money and – most probably – limited results. We don’t know how much of each ingredient we get per serving. Some of the ingredients are questionable. There are better prebiotics than PrebioThrive for sure.
PrebioThrive Review: Does this prebiotic promote gut health?
PrebioThrive is a prebiotic supplement made by Gundry MD. Don’t let the name fool you – this is a supplement manufacturing company, not a doctor. The company was founded by Dr. Steven Gundry; a cardiac surgeon currently trying to make some side money by selling supplements through YouTube. Gundry MD makes a range of supplements related to gut health and microbiome support.
So what does PrebioThrive do exactly?
The Gundry MD website says that PrebioThrive can:
- Promote efficient digestion
- Reduce stomach and bowel discomfort
- Re-balance your gut microbiome
- Increase energy
- Improve mood
These benefits are all inter-related. If you can fix imbalances in your gut microbiome and promote the growth of “good” gut bacteria, then you will have better digestion, more energy, and so on.
This is how all prebiotics work. Your gut microbiome controls many aspects of health and performance. PrebioThrive claims to promote overall health by fixing an imbalanced gut.
Sounds great, but is any of this true?

What’s the Difference Between a Probiotic and a Prebiotic?
Probiotics are specific strains of bacteria that can help improve digestion, boost immune system response, and more—although there’s limited evidence that they can help you lose weight.
And if your digestion is much more effective and you’re feeling good, this can translate into secondary benefits like improved energy.
On the other hand, prebiotics are a form of fiber that can’t be digested by your body, so they pass into your gut mostly intact, where they can act as a food source for probiotic bacteria. In other words, it helps them thrive.
Although most prebiotics don’t focus on a specific bacteria strain, in order to meet the definition, they must increase the number or activity of bifidobacteria, a bacteria “family” often associated with improving constipation, reducing total cholesterol, addressing some aspects of IBS, and more.
Ingredients
Prebiothrive claims to improve digestion, reduce stomach discomfort, promote a balanced gut microbiome, and boost energy. The company website advises taking 1 scoop of Prebiothrive every morning with 8oz of water, preferably with a probiotic to create the “synbiotic effect.”
The effects are thought to be possible through their blend of the following prebiotic ingredients:
Acacia Gum
This non-digestible po I decided to take a look at some products which claim to support the digestive system through the use of prebiotics. One of the products I’ve come across through researching super greens and other products by this company is Dr. Gundry (Gundry MD) and their range of Prebiothrive products. As I’ve already looked into their Primal Plants (and a little at the Vital Reds) I thought a delve into this area of digestive supplements would be interesting. Prebiotics and probiotics are in an area being continually looked at by medical and dietetics researchers as they are linked with gut health and can therefore be considered to form the base of dietary supplement use – what we eat and drink is after all the foundation of our health. Prebiotics are largely considered to be the ‘fuel’ for probiotics (the good gut bacteria which promote healthy digestive environments). So is there such a thing as a supplement that can support good gut bacteria to do even more of a good job? Let’s have a look. SHOP PREBIOTHRIVE The Gundry MD website describes Prebiothrive as a ‘cutting-edge formula’ of ‘five advanced prebiotic ingredients to help promote a probiotic-friendly environment in your gut’. This seems like a simple enough formula. But I feel I need to know more, as at $79 USD for 30 days supply this is a rather expensive supplement! ‘Good gut bacteria’ already exist in your gut. This is something research has proven and one of the reasons that probiotic products could be considered to be a waste of money. I need to know more, as at $79 USD for 30 days supply this is a rather expensive supplement! If you feel that for some reason your gut environment is not adequate or is underperforming (and there are people out there that will tell you that symptoms of this could be low energy, poor immunity, etc) you may want to think about improving your diet. Likewise, if you suffer from I discovered my Lectin issue about five months ago. I am an RN that has been disabled for over 25 years - I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, the classical type, and also chronic pain, Psoriatic Arthritis, Rheum Arthritis, and had been on Methadone and narcs for 25 years. I spent all those years in misery and being treated like a junkie, and wasn't (I was obviously addicted though). I found DMSO, weaned off my narcs and hit the internet for nutrition. This is where and when I got my mind back, and my brain started working again. Then I started firing doctors and learned about Dr. Gundry and things started making sense to me. Everything I was eating that I thought was healthy was high in lectins, so I stopped the big four first, and I started improving. Then a few months later I got the Prebiothrive. I had been on probiotics for years, taken no antibiotics and dropped artificial sweeteners. Why was I having so much trouble? I finally added the Prebiothrive, as my weight was not such a big issue anymore, getting off narcotic over three years time, I had dropped a total of 70 lbs and was 130 lbs again. I also had found the greatest Rheumatologist that gave me a diagnosis of Rheumatoid and Psoriatic Arthritis and started me on Otezla, which helped so fast, it was amazing. I had asked MDs for over 10 years about that, I was blown off so many times. My sed rate, through the roof, I was a swollen, spotted mess. Lectins were killing me. So now I have had almost three and and a half weeks of Prebiothrive and finally my gut is getting straight! It was not one or two weeks but, I had been eating wrong for so long. Now, I don't know what to eat exactly, but, I'm adding things in and trying it. I have so much improvement, that I'm off blood pressure meds, off pain pills, using natural ways instead. They work better anyway, and I feel like my body is starting to help itself, as my pain is improving. Not always, as I will degenerate over
