Mike Vallely was born on June 29, , in Edison, New Jersey, to Art and Mary Vallely.

As a youngster, he participated in Little League Baseball until, one day, aged 14, he discovered the world of skateboarding after borrowing a board from a friend.

For the Christmas, his parents gifted him a professional Jeff Phillips signature model skateboard.

In his early riding years, he chose the streets as his main playground, but soon, he was already testing his skills on steep ramps.

His favorite spots were New Jersey's Barn ramp, Tom Groholski's vert ramp, and New York's Brooklyn Banks skatepark.

The Ride to the Top

In , the teenager moved with his family to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he met the local skate team, Subculture, at Kempsville High School.

Mike entered contests and developed his talent at his neighborhood's launch and quarter-pipe ramps for a short period.

His outstanding street skating skills drew the attention of Neil Blender, Stacy Peralta, and Lance Mountain during a professional vert competition held at Mount Trashmore Park.

Seeing Vallely's worn skateboard, The Bones Brigade and Powell-Peralta riders and entrepreneurs gave him a new deck and offered him an amateur sponsorship deal with their brand.

A few months later, the New Jersey skater won the amateur division at the Oceanside Street Attack in California.

The victory ignited a series of media coverage on Vallely's rise to the top.

The Double-Kick Skate Design Years

In August, Mike V landed the cover of Thrasher Magazine. The shot featured Vallely performing an eye-catching sad plant.

The golden year of would not be concluded without an appearance in the legendary skate video "The Search for Animal Chin."

Also, one of his most horrendous injuries occurred during this period after hitting a curb with his face. The result was a split chin and lips, an open forehead, and an obliterated face.

Mike Vallely was born in Edison, New Jersey and resides in Long Beach, California. He is the singer in the hardcore band Revolution Mother and in the punk rock band Mike V & the Rats. He also sang for Black Flag on their reunion shows in Los Angeles. He was the singer for the part of the show where the band played the entire My War album. He is on the Element Skateboards team as a pro skater. Vallely was featured in the popular Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video game series. Vallely is also a big fan of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks, and writes a blog on the Ducks' official website. Vallely also has a wife Ann and two children, Emily and Lucy.

Mike Valley was born on June He started skateboarding in the autumn of and was sponsored only two years later in the spring of by Powell Peralta. That same summer he was the NSA National Amateur Streetstyle Champion and appeared on the cover of Thrasher magazine, the same time in which Valley changed the spelling of his last name to Vallely.

Vallely turned pro in and in he moved to las vegas from his native state of New Jersey and his first pro model skateboard was released by Powell Peralta.

In he left Powell Peralta to help form World Industries which revolutionized the skateboard industry.

In Vallely married his longtime girlfriend Ann and in December of that year their daughter Emily was born.

In Vallely won the first annual Skatepark Of Tampa Pro Street Contest in Tampa, Florida and competed in the first ever X Games.

In Vallely traveled to China to do the very first professional skateboard demonstrations in that country.

In Etnies Footwear released Mike V’s first signature skateboard shoe.

Further inspo came by way of the September issue of Thrasher with Natas Kaupas busting a wall ride on the cover. With his first board in hand—a Sims Jeff Phillips with Gull Wings and Kryptos—Mike wasted no time taking up street skating and even vert at spots like Tom Groholski’s ramp and the Barn Ramp. At a vert ramp contest at Mt. Trashmore in Virginia Beach, Virginia in , Mike was discovered by Neil Blender and Lance Mountain hoisting street plants in the parking lot. Long story short, Mike was invited to join Powell-Peralta’s team, the Bones Brigade, and was photographed for the cover of the August issue of Thrasher. Mike’s new sponsor flew him out to Oceanside, California for the Street Attack contest, in which he promptly won the am division and made appearances in Powell-Peralta’s classic The Search For Animal Chin video, as well as the cult classic skate film, Gleaming the Cube.

In , Powell-Peralta released Mike’s first pro model deck, emblazoned with first a bug then an elephant for the graphics. A year later, Mike left the brand for World Industries, releasing one of the first modern double kick decks that directly paved the way to popsicle sticks. Early life

Born in , Vallely grew up in Edison, New Jersey. He has an older brother, Joe, and a younger sister, Amy.
