  • Dr Eva Orsmond opens up about the end of her year marriage

It's rare to find people who can go through a divorce amicably and remain friends on the other side.

But Dr. Eva Orsmond has revealed that her year marriage to husband Wyatt has ended on the best terms possible, and that she has no regrets.

Speaking to The Sunday Independent's Life magazine, the straight-talking Scandi who found fame on Irish screens revealed: 'I would be lying if I said these things were easy, but the most important thing is to emphasise that I wouldn't be where I am or who I am without Wyatt, and he wouldn't be where or who he is without me.

'So it's very amicable and we obviously have done great things together and even though, obviously, our romantic relationship is over, and I suppose has been for a while, our business relationship is going really well.'

The former Operation Transformation panelist and her husband have two teenage sons together, Christopher 19 and year-old Evan.

The Finnish doctor moved to Ireland from Wyatt's native South Africa when her geotechnical engineer got a job working on the Irish motorways. The children were under the age of five at the time.

Dr. Eva who is set to don her dancing shoes for RTE's Dancing With The Stars added: 'Life is full of choices and you can't have everything and that's something we have to understand. Change is not easy but change can be good. And when you gain something, you lose something. But I see life as a journey and if there is one thing I don't do, it's regrets.

'I believe I was not getting the best out of myself and he was not getting best out of himself and we only have one life. It's so funny how life goes. There are days I don't know what to think any more.'

And she says their sons have also adjusted well.

'Nothing has really changed for them because Evan is with his girlfriend and Christopher is in Finland, and I am still really close and really good friends with Wyatt

Dr Eva Orsmond: I say it as it is

“We have to wait eight weeks before it heals, and if it doesn’t he will need a hip replacement. But he could have been paralysed or died,” she says.

    What shape are you in?

I am relatively fit now. But there were almost four weeks before Christmas when I, basically, did nothing — I was so involved with Operation Transformation, running my private, medical weight-loss clinic, and my family. I caught up during my holidays. But, now, I am only able to do something once or twice a week.

I go for a run — 30 minutes to an hour, depending on my fitness level. I also have a treadmill at home.

My ideal hobby is dancing. I love it. Last year, when I was in South Africa with my husband’s family, I did some pole dancing. I really enjoyed it.

    Have you any health concerns?

With running, I worry about my knees. I think swimming is better. But, then, running is great for my head space.

What are your healthiest eating habits?

I eat a lot of vegetables — I do soups, stirfrys and I use spices.

    What’s your guiltiest pleasure?

I am a chocoholic. I think Finnish chocolate is the best — you can’t get it here, but I do love Leondais. There is a shop in Blackrock where I do my shopping, and every time I go I say to myself, ‘I am doing so much for others, I might as well get four chocolates for myself’. I have them while doing the shopping.

    I also like white wine.

What would keep you awake at night?

I usually sleep very well. If I had worry or stress about something I didn’t know how to resolve — that kind of thing would keep me awake.

    How do you relax?

I don’t know, really, how to because I always do something. I really enjoy cooking and I like to watch Downtown Abbey and Mad Men — I like to have a series that I can catch up on when I have time — I often find movies boring. And I l

Dr Eva Orsmond is leaving Ireland after realising dream in Portugal

After 19 eventful years that included a climb to fame, a stint on Dancing With The Stars and a high-profile marriage separation (and subsequent reunion),  Dr Eva Orsmond is leaving Ireland.

But it’s not the dark winter evenings, the traffic or the daily grind of life as one of Ireland’s most outspoken weight loss experts that has Eva on the move. Rather, the doctor, originally from Finland, is finally realising a long-held dream.

‘I’ve had a dream for 20 years to have a place in the sun,’ Eva reveals. ‘Change is like a holiday, and I wanted to change. I also want to relax and chill. Ireland is amazing and has its many advantages, but let’s face it, the weather is freezing. I lived for seven years in Italy and always loved the idea of returning to a sunny place.’

Eva’s move, which was first put into motion almost three years ago, came at a fortuitous time in her life. Her four weight-loss clinics in Ireland are growing more popular by the day.

Her sons, Evan and Christopher, have flown the nest and are making their way out in the world. And Eva’s own mother is now nearly 83 (‘82 going on 35 and driving me more crazy by the day,’ she laughs).

It was on a trip to visit her mother in southern Portugal for her 80th birthday that Eva and her husband, South-African born engineer Wyatt Orsmond, happened upon a huge and derelict traditional old farmhouse, set on 42, square metres of land.

The doctor had long been on a hunt for a place to open a five-star hotel/resort that focused on wellbeing and weight loss, and as she recalls, it was ‘love at first sight’ when she clapped eyes on the property.

‘I think I’ve been driving Wyatt ballistic – even back when we couldn’t afford our first house, I was talking about opening up a place like this,’ Eva recalls. ‘The minute I walked into this place I thought, “my God, this is exactly what we’re looking for”.

    I knew I couldn’t afford anything on

  • Eva Orsmond: ‘Young women have no reason to be overweight’

It's nearly too perfect that Eva Orsmond has a Rottweiler and a Doberman. It would have been a surprise if the most fearsome doctor on our TV screens had a toy poodle or a Labrador lolloping around her Co Wicklow home. "They're excellent security out here in the country," says Orsmond, whose husband has been away a lot. They are company when she goes for a run on Newcastle beach too.

Not that she has had much time for running lately. She has five weight-loss Orsmond Clinics and she is just back from a month in Australia, where she met up with her husband, South African-born Wyatt, who was on the tail-end of a four and a half month sailing trip. Then there is her new diet book to promote.

The Finnish-born medic became famous over the course of her six years on Operation Transformation, RTÉ's ratings-grabbing, fat-busting show. It took a while for audiences to get used to a doctor dishing out recipes, and to her frank approach and, because every reality show needs a baddie, she soon became a star. She was a rare thing: a TV personality with a distinctive personality.

But then her sharp tongue tripped her up. She made one of the contestants cry by telling her to “cop on and stop crying”, and she went from the being the one some viewers loved to hate to someone they were turned off by. So is she just a little chastened by the public reaction?

"Would I talk to anyone like that in my surgery? No, of course not – but don't get me wrong, it didn't come difficult to me," she says. Orsmond has been replaced for this series by a GP and a nutritionist (who, incidentally, made a contestant cry last week, although there were no calls to Liveline or complaints to the Medical Council afterwards). Might the reaction to Orsmond have stemmed from how she said things rather than what she said?

"I am loud," she says – and she is, even sitting around the island unit in her smart new kitchen. Although may
